About This Image
This collage was made from paper, cardboard, and found objects. The
face represents the population living in the US-Mexico border region, a
region that covers 100 kilometers to the north and south of the
international divide. The face is composed of symbols and colors taken
from the US and Mexican flags and currency. The blue ribbon that runs
through the middle of the collage suggests the Rio Grande, which extends
from the Gulf of Mexico to the cities of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad
Ju�rez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and serves as the political boundary between
the two countries. The artist�s idea in creating this collage was to
reflect not only the uniqueness of both the US and Mexican residents in
the region but also to convey the message that these groups have much in
common. In addition to sharing the same geography and environment,
residents share heritage, lifestyle, and culture. Along with the rich
heterogeneity of the border population, there is also a common regional
identity.

Este collage fue hecho de papel, cart�n, y materiales de desecho. El
rostro representa la poblaci�n que vive a lo largo de la frontera M�xico-EE.UU.,
una regi�n que cubra 100 kil�metros al norte y sur de cada lado de la
divisi�n internacional. El rostro est� formado por s�mbolos y colores
tomados de las banderas y monedas de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos y los
EE.UU. La cinta azul en el centro del collage sugiere el R�o Bravo, el
l�mite pol�tico entre los dos pa�ses que va desde el Golfo de M�xico a las
ciudades de El Paso, Tejas, y Ciudad Ju�rez, Chihuahua, Mexico. La idea de
la artista en crear este collage era reflejar las caracter�sticas �nicas de los residentes
de la frontera entre los Estados Unidos Mexicanos y los EE.UU. y tambi�n dar
el mensaje que estos grupos tienen mucho en com�n. Adem�s de compartir la
misma geograf�a y ambiente, los residentes comparten herencia, estilo de
vida, y cultura. Junto con la heterogeneidad rica de la poblaci�n fronteriza,
tambi�n existe una identidad regional com�n.
