This figure shows adherence as a spectrum, with nonadherent behaviors on the left and adherent behaviors on the right. Data from this study highlight some key determining factors that influence an RA patient’s place on this spectrum: self-efficacy, severity of RA, side-effects, belief in medication, fear of medication, and the patient–physician relationship. In addition, participants in this study emphasized key strategies used to achieve adherent behavior: developing routines and having social support from family members.
