Natural Disasters in the Americas, Dialysis Patients, and Implications for Emergency Planning: A Systematic Review
SYSTEMATIC REVIEW — Volume 17 — June 11, 2020
PEER REVIEWED
We identified 424 records through database searching (PubMed = 297; Scopus = 14; CINAHL =104; Cochrane Library = 9) and 10 additional records through other sources. We removed 56 duplicates and screened 378 records. After eliminating 357 records that did not meet inclusion criteria, we assessed 21 full-text articles for eligibility. We excluded 6 full-text articles for the following reasons: 1 minireview focused on acute kidney injury patients; 1 review article considered the use of peritoneal dialysis in austere environments; and 4 articles did not discuss the effects of a natural disaster on dialysis patients. Fifteen articles met the selection criteria for full-text data extraction.
